St Mary's Foundation Trust and Old Girls' Guild hosted our first Old Girls' Connect Chapters in Johannesburg and Cape Town in 2018. The cocktail functions were hosted by Jonathan Manley, Executive Principal and Bronwyn Cawood, Foundation Trust Manager. The heart of these chapters is to network and connect, with the common link of St Mary’s. It is an opportunity for Old Girls to celebrate their unified past as well as to look forward to new opportunities.
In his address to the group, Jonathan Manley, said “This is an initiative aimed at improving the effectiveness and value of our Old Girl’s network. We want our current and future Old Girls to have a strong connection so that there is an active support base for them. We also want to support our existing Old Girls by hosting events like tonight so that there is an opportunity for connection, collaboration and possibly, mentoring. It is our belief that the sense of belonging that we try to develop at school is something that goes beyond the school years and has significant value after school.”
The events were very well received by all who attended, some of whom have had little to no contact with the school since they matriculated. The overwhelming response was that finally the time had come for this idea and everyone is looking forward to 2019's events, including Durban!
